Donald “Don” Allen Armstrong, 68, of Roscoe, IL, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, in his home surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born on Tuesday, December 31, 1957, in Rockford, IL, the son of Robert F. and Beverly J. (O’Dell) Armstrong. Graduate of Harlem High School, Class of 1976. He married his high school sweetheart, Valerie L. Peterson on September 2, 1978, in Roscoe, IL. Don was known as a hard worker and loyal employee at North Park Water District in Machesney Park, IL, for 44 years, retiring in late 2020. Don enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was an active member of the Rockford Steel Pigs Motorcycle Club, known for supporting local charities, for almost 20 years, with his nickname “Don Juan” proudly stitched on his vest. He also enjoyed watching and attending short track races with his son, Drew, attending rock concerts with his boys, golfing, taking trips to Florida with family, and working in his yard. He was an avid football fan, rooting for the Green Bay Packers, the University of Notre Dame, and his grandson, Harrison. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his grandkids, Lillian and Harrison, attending their numerous sporting events and activities as their biggest fan. He will always be their loving “Papa.” He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and everyone that has got the opportunity to meet him.
Don leaves behind his beloved sons, Matthew (Natalie) Armstrong and Drew Armstrong; treasured grandchildren, Lillian and Harrison; brother, Bob “BA” (Delores Riley) Armstrong of Machesney Park; sister, Carol (Steve) Heck of Rockford, IL; brother, Gary (Patricia) Armstrong of West Palm Beach, FL; nieces and nephews, Robert “Bobby” (Angela) Armstrong, Jr., Nicole (Sean) Rehberg, Jordan Heck, Jarrett Heck, Nicholas Armstrong, and Mark Armstrong. Predeceased by his parents; and wife, Valerie Armstrong.
Funeral service at 10 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL., and burial to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park, IL. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Delehanty Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established by the family.
