Dolores Dummer

June 26, 1929 — October 14, 2020

Dolores Josephine Dummer, 91, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at Wesley Willows. Born June 26, 1929, in Antioch, IL, the daughter of Gordon and Margaret (Wirfs) Smoak. Married Clifford E. Dummer on June 24, 1951, in Loves Park. Graduated from Antioch High School, attended Rockford School of Business. Formerly employed by Amerock Corporation, Riverside School and parttime for Dr. Armstrong. Longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, active in The Linda Hallberg Circle, Altar Guild, Eucharistic Ministery and taught Sunday School for many years. Dolores spent months hand painting flower designs on the ceramic tiles in the remodeled Anderson Hall Kitchen at Trinity. She donated her time based on her love for the Church and enjoyment of painting. Dolores had a lifelong passion for painting, both oils and watercolors, belonging to several Rockford art groups; The Y’s Artists, The Plein Air Painters and Rockford Art Guild. She exhibited her work at many shows including Greenwich Village Art Fair, won First Prize in “Doors of Rockford” Art Group in 2007 and received Honorable Mentions for artwork presented at the Wisconsin Regional Artists Association 50th Anniversary. She traveled to different areas of the world to capture memories which were displayed in her paintings. Not only did she enjoy artwork but also wood crafts, sewing, knitting and gardening. Music was also a big part of Dolores’ life, she played the organ and accordion, loved dancing with Cliff and at one time they belonged to several Square Dance Clubs. She especially enjoyed German Polka Music and was a huge fan of Elvis! Had love for all animals and raised many dogs over the years, her latest and most special was her little dog Muffin. Dolores’s greatest achievements in life and the things she was most proud of was raising her family and giving of herself to each and everyone. Family meant everything to her, and she put everyone first before her own needs and never wanted to ask for help. Her children and her grandchildren were so important to her and she wanted them to know how much she loved them. Dolores was a kind and giving person, who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Survivors include sons, Craig (Cathy) Dummer of Pecatonica, David Dummer of California, Mark (Emily) Dummer of Winnebago and Alan (Yvonne) Dummer of Thomson; daughter, Joanne (Dan) Gregg of Loves Park; grandchildren, Brad (Kara) Dummer, Brian (Amber) Dummer, Daniel Dummer, Blake (Susan) Dummer, Jennifer (Bill) Gregg-Roman, Ryan Gregg, Tiffany (Brent) Nix, and Samantha Berry; 8 great-grandchildren; and many relatives and dear friends around the world.
