Dino Vayr, 86, of Winnebago, IL, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, in his home surrounded by family. Born February 9, 1938, in Venaus, Italy, the eldest child of Marcelino and Luigia (Rosetto) Vayr. In 1954, at the age of 16, he and his family immigrated to the United States and settled in Waukegan. Dino returned to school and graduated from Waukegan Township High School and Lake Forest School of Management. In 1959, he proudly became a U.S. citizen. He married Marie DePew on October 11, 1958, in Waukegan. Lived eight years in Winnebago, coming here from Waukegan. Employed by Outboard Marine Corp. in 1957 for 43 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement, Dino worked for several years for “Elder Care,” driving the elderly to doctor appointments. Active member of St. Anastasia Church in Waukegan where he volunteered in various positions. Pastoral council, bingo, soup kitchen and eucharistic ministry to name a few. Member of St. Anthony of Padua Church. He was a boy scout leader and went on many camping trips with his son. He enjoyed going antiquing with his wife on weekends. Dino never smiled more than when he was with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Marie; son, Donald (Kim) Vayr of Winnebago; daughter, Amy Vayr-Poulsen of Forsyth, GA; grandchildren, Kristin (Daniel) Burns of Winnebago, Kayla (Andres) Marquez of Winnebago, Bryan (Emily) Vayr of Naperville, IL, Paige Poulsen of Kenosha, WI, and Abby Poulsen of Forsyth, GA; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucia Carlson of Ft. Myers, FL, Anna (Larry Bowman) Vayr of Longmont, CO, and Maria Estabrook of Ft. Myers; numerous nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Lillian Bennett of Spring Grove, IL; brother-in-law, Dean DePew of Spring Grove. Predeceased by his parents; father-in-law, Alfred C. DePew; infant son, Jeffrey Brian Vayr; son-in-law, Jeff Poulsen; brothers-in-law, Dorland Carlson, Scott Estabrook, and David DePew; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Dornbusch.
Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1010 Ferguson Street, Rockford, IL, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. in the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
