Dennis Anthony

September 22, 1941 — September 26, 2025

Dennis L. Anthony, 84, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 26, 2025.  He was born September 22, 1941, in Belvidere, IL, the son of Maynard B. Anthony and Mildred L. (Laue) Sweat.

Dennis proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy before marrying the love of his life, Marcia I. Stafford, on December 7, 1968, in Belvidere, IL.  Together, they shared a lifetime of love and adventure.

Throughout his career, Dennis held many driving positions, most notably with the Peoria Rockford Bus Company, where his work took him to exciting events, including concerts for artists such as Pink Floyd and Michael Jackson.  Later, he served with dedication as a U.S. postal driver.  After retirement, Dennis and Marcia traveled across the country before returning home to settle into a life filled with family, friends, and the simple joys he treasured most.

Dennis had a deep love for canoeing, photography, and above all, spending time with family.  He was known for his warm personality, quick wit, and his thoughtful habit of calling loved ones just to check in.  He had a gift for kindness, often giving boat rides to complete strangers just to see them smile.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He is survived by his children, Lisa (Marty) Whitmore of Eureka, MT, Shannon (Cheyenne) Tetzlaff of Roscoe, IL, and Rick Anthony of Phoenix, AZ; cherished grandchildren include, Ash and Riley Whitmore of Missoula, MT, Emma Tetzlaff (Alex Brogan) of Loves Park, IL, and Brayden Tetzlaff of Roscoe, IL.  He is also survived by his sister, Sue (Doug) Anderson; nephew, Dan Anderson of Emmett, ID; brothers-in-law, Steve (Sung-Hi) Stafford of Rockford, IL, Jon Stafford of Roscoe, IL, and Jim Stafford of Edgerton, WI; and sister-in-law, Sandra Stafford of Machesney Park, IL; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Dennis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marcia; as well as his parents.

Dennis leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and unwavering devotion to his family.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
