Denise Rachel Goodge, 64, of Rockford passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, in Amberwood Care Center. Born January 24, 1958, in Chicago. She married Stephen R. Goodge on April 27, 1979, in Chattanooga, TN. Denise touched many lives as she moved from Tennessee to Canada, Florida, and Anguilla, BWI, before settling down in Rockford in 1986. Denise was someone who loved fiercely and deeply, as shown in her extensive garden, her collection of succulents, her love of technology that continued beyond the classroom, and most clearly, in her grandchildren. She was very proud of her time working for the Rockford Public Schools District, but when she was needed to be a full-time Nana, she did not hesitate to dedicate herself to creating a home for them. Denise loved family gatherings and family traditions; she was happiest in a bustling kitchen full of boisterous guests. She will be remembered for her pecan tassies, late-night texts, fast and ruthless Dutch Blitz games, and perfect playlists for long car rides. She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church, where she volunteered for many years with the Children's Ministry teaching the Loyal Lions (ages 3-4). Survivors include her husband, Steve; children, Martha (Kush), Aaron, Missy, and Dorrie; grandchildren, Peyton, Decklyn, Kinsley, Linden, Zayla, Kyden, Phoenix, and Seanix; siblings, Roger Courtney, Mike (Madonna) Anstrom, Billy (Francine) Toler, Cathy Whalum, Gina (David) Fisher, and Mary (Chris) Moore; numerous nieces and nephews; and her husband’s loving family. Predeceased by her parents, Shirley (Hemm) and Eugene Toler; and siblings, Suzanna, Johnny, and Cherie.
Celebration of Life will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2022, in First Evangelical Free Church, 2223 North Mulford Road, Rockford, with time to gather following the services. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
