Delores Cook

August 19, 1937 — January 4, 2022

Delores Ann Cook, 84, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 4, 2022, in her home.  Born August 19, 1937, in Loves Park, the daughter of Vernon and Esther (Ramsey) Schuneman.  Graduated from Harlem High School, Class of 1954, where she met Lee R. Cook.  They married on June 18, 1954.  Delores worked a short time in the High School cafeteria before driving a school bus over 40 years for the Harlem School District, retiring in 2003.  She was loved and remembered by many of the students she watched grow up while driving them to school.  She will surely be missed by the breakfast and lunch group which met weekly to share crazy bus driving stories.  While raising three sons, she was a devoted mother who never let any of them go without.  Delores took great joy in attending all of their sporting events - and there were many!  When not watching her sons play, she was found volunteering for the Harlem Fans Club working the concessions.  Delores is survived by those left to cherish her memory, her sons, Milt Cook and Mark (Lori) Cook, both of Machesney Park and Jeremy (Jules) Cook of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Brent (Jessie) Cook, Leisel Cook, and Hollis Cook; great-grandchildren, Elijah Cruz Cook and Lola Bandaberg Cook; sister, Donna Samp; numerous nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends who will surely miss her including Ruth Chandler, Lori Briggs, Lorraine Chaussee, Lori Meyers, Sue Middleton and Gwen Cox, to name a few.  Predeceased by her parents; husband, Lee in 2019; and grandson, Jared J. Cook in 2016.

Due to Covid there will be no services.  We ask that you keep Delores in your memory and prayers.  Delores' wishes were to be cremated and laid to rest with Lee at the Sunset Memorial Gardens, Machesney Park.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park.
