David “The Jokester” Lawrence Drake, 75, of Loves Park, IL, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Javon Bea Hospital. He was born on Saturday, July 1, 1950, in Rockford, IL, the son of James and Avonne (Dauenbaugh) Drake. He married Roxanne Hughes on October 20, 1973. Formerly employed by Square D. Electric Company and most recently by Drake Automotive. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and traveling throughout the U.S. David loved being out in nature settings camping, hiking, and identifying animal tracks. Survivors include his wife, Roxanne; children, Katie (Drake) Merfeld, Larry (Anna) Drake, and Daniel Drake; grandchildren, Angelica, Kayla, Trenton, Wiley, and Samantha; great-grandchildren, Delois, Rhiannon, Jaster, Lillith, and Leo; brothers, Steven Drake, Douglas Drake, and Bradley (Cindy) Drake; several nieces and nephews; best friend, Larry Bauer; friends, Low Vision Group at Center for Sight and Hearing; and his cats, Tuxedo and Sophia. Predeceased by his parents; sister, Patricia Johnson; brother, Kenneth Drake; and great-grandson, Jeffrey Miles.
Memorial service at 2 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2026, at Evans United Methodist Church, 7605 North 2nd Street, Machesney Park, with visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
