David John Celner, 69, of Rockford passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. Born September 28, 1947, in Rockford, the son of Charles and Margaret (Benfield) Celner. Graduated from West High School, Class of 1965, and Minnesota State College at Mankato, Class of 1969. Veteran of Vietnam, serving in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. Married Margaret Ostic on April 8, 1972, in Rockford. Employed in the personnel department at Amerock, Labor World and Tandem Staffing. Avid and die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He finally fulfilled his life-long dream of watching the Cubs win the World Series. David was a loving and supportive father. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; daughters, Emily Celner and Gretchen (Geronimo) Cooper; much anticipated first grandchild, due very soon; special companion and friend, his beloved yellow lab, Parker; aunts, JoAnne Behrens and Helen Beckett; uncle, Paul (Jean) Celner; and numerous cousins. Predeceased by his father, Charles; mother, Margaret Batchelder. A note from David: I do not want my family and friends to be sad when I am gone. Please remember me for my wonderful sense of humor and my funny, corny stories that I loved to share. I have enjoyed making people smile every day.
Celebration of Life will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, November 19, at the family home. He donated his body to Anatomical Gift Association. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
