Darrell Malthe

Darrell A. Malthe, 85, of Loves Park passed away Monday, August 19, 2019, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. Born May 6, 1934, in Hancock, WI, the son of Allie and Beatrice E. (Hall) Malthe. Attended Harlem High School, Class of 1951. Darrell attended all of his class reunions. Married Barbara A. Cady on May 30, 1958, in Rockford; she passed away September 17, 1974. Married Roberta L. (Ferguson) Runnerstrom on September 6, 1975, in Rockford; she passed away March 26, 2008. Employed by Sundstrand for 30 years and 2 weeks, retiring in 1985. Darrell enjoyed his Goldwing motorcycle, traveling through 29 U.S. states and was a member of the Steel Whiteness Wheel Christian Riders. He was a member of Prairie Riders Snowmobile Club, Blackhawk Trail Blazer’s and first president of the Vagabonds Hot Rod Club. He worked to organize a drag strip in the Rockford area. Darrell enjoyed car shows, drag racing and stock car racing. Survivors include his daughters, Ann (Mark Cole) Smith and Penny (Glen) Runnerstrom; stepchildren, Debora (Michael) Seno, Laurie (Robert) Hood and Steven (Angie) Runnerstrom; grandchildren, Jason (Anya) Smith, Kyle (Alex) Smith, Derek (Jordon) Runnerstrom, Sabrina Runnerstrom and Brandon Seno; great-grandchildren, Trey Smith, Brayden Smith, Aria Smith, Audra Smith and Theo Runnerstrom; brother, Jerry (Leora) Malthe; sister, Ruth Johnson; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents; sons, Kenneth Malthe and David Malthe; and sister, Lavern Fields.

Service at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2019, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2019, in the funeral home. Memorials to Brooke Road United Methodist Church.
