Dalton Luby

April 20, 2005 — March 28, 2024

Dalton Luby, 18, formerly of Machesney Park, IL, tragically passed away as the result of a motorcycle accident on March 28, 2024, in Pueblo, Colorado.  He was born April 20, 2005, in Rockford, IL, and lived in Loves Park, IL, for most of his short life.  Dalton touched many lives with his wit, humor, kindness, and zest for life.  He could build and fix just about anything, and he loved working with his hands.  At an early age, he mastered Legos and could build amazing Lego designs with or without directions, preferably without.  As he grew older, he loved everything motorized and spent countless hours fixing bikes, cars, and trucks.  He did excellent work with building materials and could do carpentry, painting, siding, roofing, and flooring.  At the age of 14 he learned how to weld.  There was no challenge too great for him.  His mother and brothers enjoyed camping at every opportunity frequenting Indian Trails Campground in Pardeeville, Wisconsin, and numerous trips to Wisconsin Dells.  He also loved his beautiful German Shepherd, Sasha.

Dalton was predeceased by his mother, Tamara Luby, when he was only 9 years old.  He went to live with his grandparents, Melvin and Gayle Kruse.  He especially enjoyed working with his grandfather at his uncle Melvin’s property.  Here he could ride his motorbike, cut grass, trim trees, and split logs.  His family was so proud of him when he graduated from Harlem High School in 2023.

Dalton loved being outdoors all day no matter the weather.  He loved building igloos with his mom and brothers and playing in the snow.  During the summer he loved being in the swimming pool and would get super tanned.  As he got older, he enjoyed spending time with his brother, Devin who is three years older and lives in Schaumburg, Illinois.  They spent many hours sharing videos, jokes, memories, supporting one another, and planning for the future.  They especially loved playing video games like Fortnite and Minecraft while eating ravioli out of the can.

One of his greatest joys was when his older brother, Ryan invited him to move to Pueblo four months ago.  He initially lived with Ryan, his fiancé Emily, their newborn, Myles, having family dinners, and always saying that the dinner was gourmet.  Dalton only wanted to make them proud.  He had recently secured his first apartment and was learning to live independently.  Ryan and Dalton loved riding motorcycles through Colorado and building putt-putt bikes in the garage.

He is greatly mourned and survived by his brothers, Devin Luby, Ryan (Emily Maffe) Luby, and David (Daniella) Kruse; sister, Pandora Kruse; his blended family, and grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and dear friends.

Memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation is from noon to service time.  Cremation rites accorded.
