Colleen M. Zimmerman

April 4, 1938 — June 18, 2019

Colleen M. Zimmerman, 81, of Machesney Park passed away on June 18, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Born April 4, 1938 in Freeport, daughter of Boyd “Bud” and Agatha “Peg” (Hoffman) Nye. Graduated from Aquin Catholic High School in 1955. Married Donald W. Zimmerman in Freeport, May 3, 1958. Member of St. Bridget Catholic Church since 1960 and active in the Catholic Women’s League and the St. Bridget Bereavement Committee. Colleen’s proudest accomplishment was her four children. They are all kind, considerate, loving and caring, and were her greatest joy. Losing her son, Gregg, at 19 years was her greatest sorrow. Her most important role was homemaker. After spending many years as a stay at home mom, she later retired from Eagle Foods after more that 20 years part time. Her faith, family and friends were most important to her. She enjoyed baking, working out, playing poker and reading. Colleen especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, as they are always silly, loving and fun to be with. Survivors include husband, Donald; son, Jeffrey (Karen) Zimmerman of Machesney Park; daughters, Renee (Timothy) Otis of Tempe, AZ, and Michelle (Guy) Jaspers of Byron; grandchildren, Adam Kain, Alexandra Zimmerman and Carly Zimmerman, all of Machesney Park, Matthew Otis of Midvale, UT, Morgan Otis of Tempe, AZ, Samantha Jaspers of Wilmington, NC, Cassandra Jaspers and Aubree Jaspers, both of Byron; great-grandsons, Aden Helmer of Rockford and Anthony Martogglio of Loves Park; brothers, James Nye of Freeport, Daniel (Diana) Nye of Cedarville; twin brothers, Joseph of Prescott, AZ, and John (Linda) Nye of La Vernia, TX; sisters-in-law, Evamae Nye of Phoenix, AZ, and Barbara Nye of Freeport; and many very special cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; son, Gregory; twin sister, Kathleen Nye Oxley; brothers, William, Robert, and Michael Nye. Special thanks to Dr. Vivek Thappa and R.N. Kristi for their years of consistent care, as well as to Heartland Hospice for their special care and kindness.

Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2019, in St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Ave., Loves Park, 61111. Visitation from 9:30 a.m. to time of service. Memorials to the family for a memorial to be established. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd.
