Clarence Harold Hornbogen, 93, of Machesney Park went to be with the Lord Monday, February 25, 2019. Born December 29, 1925, in Freeport, the son of Edwin and Clarabele (Patch) Hornbogen. Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Married Esther Twachtmann on April 1, 1966, in Mineral Point, WI. Employed by Burgess Battery in Freeport for more than 25 years and was a member of the Twenty-five Year Club. At times he had three jobs to support his family and was an excellent provider. Friendships mattered greatly and he was true to his friends. He enjoyed woodworking, handcraft activities and was a perfectionist. Clarence was smart and wonderful at figuring things out. He enjoyed being a father and grandfather, loved old cars, fixing things and doing general handyman jobs. Survivors include his wife, Esther; sons, Jerome “Jerry” (Noreen) and Brian Hornbogen; daughter, Lori Hornbogen; grandchildren, Jerry (Tami) and Sherry Hornbogen; great-grandchildren, Josh, Chantel and Taylor; numerous nieces and nephews; special cat, Boss; family friend, Betty Kerr; and friends, Bob and Sherry Comer, Bill Grams and Dena Sanford. Predeceased by his first wife of 20 years, Marie (Gross) Hornbogen; sons, Alan R. and Steven E. Hornbogen; daughter, Vickie L. Hornbogen; sister, Valeria “Sis” Bollon; brother, Charles “Chuck” Hornbogen.
Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established.
