Charles Smith

Charles M. Smith, 78, of Rockford passed away Friday, February 24, 2017, in his home. Born July 25, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Charles Raymond and Mary C. (Martchiniak) Smith.  Married Palma Vaccaro on July 24, 2001, in Rockford.  Employed by Rockford Products for 37 years, retiring in 2000.  He loved the Chicago Bear games on TV and cheered for the Chicago Cubs all his life.  Charles enjoyed sitting along the Rock River at Martin Park with all of his friends.  He was also in several bowling leagues.  Survivors include his wife, Palma; son, Michael Smith of Rockford; daughter, Jacquelyn (Jeramy) Ray; grandchildren, Austin (Ashanti) Smith, Nicholas Smith, Casey Pittman, Michelle Smith, Kristin Smith, Hailley Ray, Matilda Ray, Marrissa Ray and Felix Ray; great-grandchildren, Colt Buttke, Azelea Smith, Aiden Smith and Eleanor Smith; sister, Georgetta (Ronald) Chavers; several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by parents; and two brothers, Joseph and Ernest Smith.

Service at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 2, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from noon to service time. Burial in Willwood Burial Park.
