Charles O. Loveless, aka Chuck or Neal, of Janesville, WI, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at the age of 71. (Although he probably would’ve told you he was 65, and you wouldn’t have questioned it. He had GREAT skin and hair!) He passed away at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, due to complications related to a brief illness. Chuck decided to let go of his grasp on this life the same way he lived, stubborn as can be and on his own terms.
Born September 30, 1945, in Doniphan, MO, and the son of Cletis O’Neal and Laura Eunice (Chilcutt) Loveless. The family moved to Wisconsin shortly after the birth of his younger three siblings, around the time he was a pre-teen. The family worked hard to build their home on Roosevelt together from the ground up with bare hands, and they took pride in that home for years to come.
Chuck took his role of big brother and protector seriously, and that persona showed through no matter which direction life took him. Whether he was protecting his sisters on the playground, or watching over them as they waitressed and he worked the DJ booth, his booming voice and “I mean business” glare served him well. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army, spent time working as a police officer, and also a security guard in later years.
Neal loved movies and his books, especially historical or “tough guy” action plots. He loved music so much that he often DJ’d as a source of income. His collection of music, movies, and books could dwarf many libraries. Most memorable was his love of billiards. He taught most of us how to play at a young age. It is a game of skill and intelligence, and he took home many prizes because he excelled in both. His other guilty pleasure was Pepsi. That man loved his Pepsi! He enjoyed the flavor until his last day.
Survivors include siblings, Vickie Loveless of Janesville, WI, and Michael Joe (Gina) Loveless of Springfield, MO; daughter, Keri (Brian) Daugherty of Beloit, WI; granddaughter, Erin. Chuck also leaves behind a close aunt and uncle, Wilma and Adam Eichman; and several nephews and a niece, who were all convinced at some point in their lives that he was the real Chuck Norris, or at the very least a secret spy/CIA agent, due to his mysterious and private nature, added with his dedication to health and fitness. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Janet M. Brookens.
So please, if you knew Neal, or just even know someone in the family, join us for a Celebration of Life to be held at the Hog Cabin Saloon, (Town of) Beloit, WI, Saturday, March 11, 2017, from 1 to 4 p.m. Stop by. Play some pool (or not), drink some Pepsi, and share your favorite memory of him. We would love to hear it.
In Chuck’s memory, please let your family know your final plans and wishes, as Chuck did for his family, and then give them the authority to make your final wishes possible. The family also hopes that you will consider organ donation and/or donation to science, as these are causes near and dear to the hearts of the Loveless family.
