Charlene Dull-Monroe
Charlene Dull-Monroe 94, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on March 12, 2023. Born July 21, 1928, in Soldiers Grove, WI, the daughter of Elias and Mabel (Hutchcroft) Burns. Charlene married Harland Jay Dull at the age of 14 on November 14, 1942, at Soldiers Grove in the midst of World War II. They were happily married 53 years when Harland was killed by a drunk driver in 1995. To this blessed union was born two sons, William “Bill” and Robert “Bob” and daughter, Lanna. They started their married life being dairy farmers in Soldiers Grove. Later they moved to Waunakee then to Rockford, IL. Charlene worked at J.L. Clark and Atwood, then on to Beauty School, graduating in 1958. She opened her own beauty shop in her home and retired in 1991. Both Charlene and Harland were active in their church, Evans United Methodist Church, and later Court Street United Methodist Church. They were in charge of the big Turkey Harvest Dinners, the youth fellowship, Boy Scout troop 27, Membership and Evangelism, Evening Circle, President of Methodist Women, and on the Northern Illinois Conference. Charlene was most happy when she was tending her lawn and garden. She loved sewing, knitting, doing hair, and camping. Harland and Charlene loved their RV and visited every state. Their most wonderful trip was going to Alaska. Upon Harland's death in 1995, Charlene joined the 50 Plus Singles Club where she met Delbert Monroe. They were married at the Little Brown Church in October 1998. They enjoyed 24 years of marriage until her death. Charlene loved her family and was proud of each and every one of them. They all were considered a blessing in her life. Survivors include her husband, Delbert; son, Bob (Lori) Dull; daughter, Lanna (Bob) Raley; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; 2 stepsons, Kevin (Connie) Monroe and Kurt (Tara) Monroe. Predeceased by her first husband, Harland; son, William (Bill) Dull; her parents; step-father, Foggy Bacon; brothers, Lloyd, Loris, and Burl Burns; sister, Lucille (Glen) Haville; in-laws, Jay and Pearl Dull; and brothers and sisters-in-law
Service at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2023, in Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 North Court Street, Rockford, IL, with visitation from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Court Street United Methodist Women’s Society, Mercy Health Hospice, or local Alzheimer’s Association.
