Cathy Sue Ward

Mar 13, 1960 — Jul 25, 2026

Roscoe

Cathy Sue Ward, 66, of Roscoe, Illinois, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 25, 2026. She passed away peacefully at Swedish American Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.

Born on March 13, 1960, in Rockford, Illinois, Cathy was the daughter of Donald and Caroline Hansen. She married her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Dave. Together they shared more than 43 years of marriage, creating a life filled with love, laughter, unwavering support, and countless cherished memories.

Above all else, Cathy cherished her family. While she was a loving wife and devoted mother, her favorite title in life was “Grandma.” Her grandson, August, was the light of her life and brought her immeasurable joy. Whether she was celebrating his accomplishments, creating special memories, or simply spending time together, being his grandma was her greatest blessing.

Cathy was the proud and loving mother of Tracy and Libby. She was the heart of her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her kindness, generosity, and selfless spirit touched everyone who knew her. If someone needed help, encouragement, or simply someone to listen, Cathy was always there with open arms.

For more than 28 years, Cathy faithfully served the Harlem School District. She was a friendly face to students, staff, and families alike, known for her warmth, compassion, and willingness to help anyone who walked through her office door. She formed countless friendships throughout her career and made a lasting impact on those she worked with.

Outside of work, Cathy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved crafting, shopping, eating great food, and never passed up an opportunity to enjoy something sweet. Whether it was planning a family gathering, finding the perfect gift, or making holidays and birthdays extra special, Cathy had a gift for making people feel loved.

She is survived by her beloved husband, David R. Ward; her daughters, Tracy (Cale) Beecher and Libby (Trace) Noack; her treasured grandson, August Beecher; her siblings, Dave (Mary Flack) Hansen and Alan Hansen; her brother and sister-in-law, Jeffrey and Darlene Meads; her nephews, Ryan (Dana) Meads, Michael (Sara Christensen) Hansen, Joshua Hansen, and Eric Hansen; her niece, Rachel (Jason) Soriano; and many extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald W. and Caroline M. (King) Hansen.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Cathy leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, selflessness, and family. Her gentle heart and caring nature will forever live on in those who had the privilege of knowing her.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Cremation rites have been accorded.
