Carolyn Nichols, 90, of Rockford passed away Friday, February 14, 2020, in her home. Born February 5, 1930, in Sulligent, AL, the daughter of Tildon Leroy and Mary Hazel (Birmingham) Otts. Formerly married to E.J. Alexander. She was a very hard worker throughout her life. As a child, Carolyn grew up on a farm working in the cotton fields and running a plow pulled by mules with her brother. She was formerly employed by K-Mart for more than 20 years and retired from Eclipse, formerly Rockford Brassworks, after more than 40 years. Carolyn enjoyed being a grandmother and truly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her entire family and she meant everything to them. Carolyn enjoyed music, dancing, word finds, reading, puzzles and she started writing her memoir. She read her Bible many times through. Carolyn was very proud of working two jobs and purchasing her own home. Her home is where all her family wanted to be. Survivors include her children, Diane (Jim) Reid, Gary (Cindy) Alexander and Sherry (Tim) Thompson; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; siblings, Arnold (Elizabeth) Otts, Dan (Norma) Otts and Sharon (Marv) Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong friend, Eunice Frye; special neighbor and friend, Diane Rice. Predeceased by her sister, Betty Barnes; and brothers Roland Otts and Jim Otts.
