Carol Elaine Taylor, 80, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, June 29, 2026. She was born on Saturday, December 8, 1945, in Fort Atkinson, WI, a daughter of Charles Edward and Elaine Bonita (Dahnke) Shaw.
Carol grew up in and around Fort Atkinson, WI. She was a 1964 graduate of Johnson Creek High School.
Carol married Bruce R. Taylor of Lake Mills, WI, on December 14, 1963. They had a son together before they divorced and she moved with her son to Rockford, IL, to start the job she’d work hard at for the next 42 years. After relocating to Rockford, she then welcomed her second son.
September 1966 Carol was the first woman hired by Chrysler’s Belvidere Assembly Plant in Belvidere, IL. Over the years she would be the first woman to mix paint, spray cars and several other firsts. A dedicated employee, Carol was awarded the 500-day pin on two separate occasions for no missed workdays and chose to work a lot of overtime. Even after she retired, she remained active with the local UAW. It’s at work where she met her longtime companion, Larry, whom she would share her retirement years with.
Carol also was an avid reader and loved to shop, especially with QVC. She helped many people over the years, supported multiple charities and loved her family dearly.
Carol is survived by her sons, Kevin (Laura) Taylor of Lake Mills, WI, and Jeremy (Cierra) Taylor of Davenport, IA; grandchildren, Ciara and Ian; Issac, Sadie, Jeremy, Amariyana, Tiernon, Anijah, J'Mere, Ava, Alayah, Jeremy, and Jazere; brothers, Dennis and Gregory; sister, Susan (Loren) Thompson; beloved companion, Larry Morgan; and best friend, Liz Becker. She was predeceased in death by both parents and a sister, Barbara.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful hospice staff at Mercyhealth at Home-Rockford for their care and compassion in her final days and to Delehanty Funeral Home, Loves Park, IL, for assisting the family with final arrangements.
As part of Carol’s wish for a low-key farewell, no funeral or memorial service will be held. The family kindly requests that you take a moment to remember Carol in your own way and cherish the memories shared. Carol’s Facebook page will remain open, and all are welcome to post memories and final words to her there.
