Carol Elaine Hiatt, 85, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at River Crossing of Rockford. Born August 5, 1937, in Woodstock, IL, the daughter of Marvin Avery and Verna (Peters) Holmes, Sr. Carol loved food, especially chocolate, going for a drive and her grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Vicki McNiel, Ricky (Lori) Rusher, Elaine (Cornell “Corky”) Tanassy, Randy Smith, and Tori Smith; grandchildren, John and Jenni McNiel, Nascene and Nicole Rusher, Colton Tanassy, Chance and Yvonne Smith, Gia, Jaxon, Jayden, Sawyer, Silas, and Jensen Smith; great-grandchildren, Ethan McNiel, Abby and Gwen Peters; sister, Judy Downs; and her nieces and nephews who she truly loved. Predeceased by her parents; son-in-law, Michael McNiel; grandchildren, George “Jeordy” McNiel and Sterling Smith; and brother, Marvin A. Holmes, Jr. Special thanks to the CNA’s and nursing staff at River Crossing of Rockford for their compassionate care.
Celebration of Life at a later date. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Alzheimer’s Association.
