Betty Stewart

Betty A. Stewart, 74, of Rockford passed away Friday, May 14, 2021, in her home.  Born November 9, 1946, in Sweetwater, Tennessee, the daughter of William Neil and Sophie I. (Brune) West.  Formerly married Merle C. Stewart on July 10, 1971; and divorced on April 4, 1985.  Employed by Sundstrand for 42 years, with 12 of those years employed as an international representative with the UAW International Union.  She was also the past financial secretary of the local UAW 592.  Betty was a mentor to many people.  She enjoyed traveling and being around family.  Survivors include her niece, Kathleen (Brent) Weckwerth; nephews, Raiden Weckwerth and Gareth Weckwerth; sister, Linda Brown; stepson, Victor Stewart; canine companion, Mindy; close family friends, Linda Moss, Charlotte Paris and her family.  Predeceased by her parents; former husband, Merle; son, Bill Stewart; sister, Susan West; and brother-in-law, Robert Brown.
