Betty Steiner

Betty M. (Gengenbach) Steiner, 81, of Mount Carroll passed away Friday, June 25, 2021.  Born June 15, 1940, in Mount Carroll the daughter of Carl and Mildred (Geisz) Gengenbach.  Graduated from Mount Carroll High School, Class of 1958, Rockford School of Nursing in 1961, and Rockford College in 1978.  Married Donald H. Steiner on August 15, 1969, in Mount Carroll.  Employed as a registered nurse in the emergency department at Rockford Memorial Hospital, retiring in 2006.  Following her retirement, she worked at Mercy Medical Center in Walworth, Wisconsin, retiring in August 2011.  Volunteered at Northern Illinois Hospice, Crusader Thrift Shop, Bridge Clinic and St. Paul Lutheran School Library.  Member of St. Paul Lutheran Church for many years, serving on the Altar Guild, Social Ministry Board and Ladies Guild.  Most recently, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll.  Betty enjoyed reading and belonged to a book club with former co-workers at Rockford Memorial Hospital.  Survivors include her daughter, Tina (Hans)Buch of Germany; son, Mikel Steiner of Texas; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Janice) Gengenbach; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; very good friends, Neva (nursing school roommate), Marilynn, Michele, Deb, Linda and many others.  Predeceased by her parents; husband, Donald on July 23, 1987; brother, George; sister-in-law, Catherine; nieces, Susan and Debbie.

Service at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4881 Kilburn Ave., Rockford, with visitation from 9 a.m. to service time.  Burial in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Mount Carroll.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Northern Illinois Hospice.
