Betty Martenson

February 14, 1945 — March 14, 2025

Betty Mae Martenson, 80, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025.  Born February 14, 1945, in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Willard and Pauline (Rosa) Erickson.  Betty graduated from East High School.  She worked for many years at National Lock, later retiring from Gaffney Bolt Company.  Through the years, Betty played softball and bowled in many different leagues.  Known most for throwing a backup ball.  Betty enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with the Park Lanes crew, and playing poker with family and friends.  She loved to read and sit outside.  Betty was a huge fan of Elvis, and the Chicago Bears.  Survivors include son, Tim Williams; daughter, Debby (Jeff) Starnes; grandchildren, Cory (Kassidy), Leah (Garrett), and Jay; great-granddaughters, Bayler and Myah.  Predeceased by parents; sisters, Phyllis, Bev, and Barb; brother, Gene; loving companion, Bill “Doc” Chandler; and best friend, Betty Smith.  A special thank you to the staff at River Bluff Health & Rehabilitation for the love and support they gave to Betty and her family.

A celebration will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2025, at Neighbors Bar & Grill, 7745 Forest Hills Road, Loves Park, IL.  Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
