Betty J. Hayes, 94, of Rockford passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2020, in Crimson Pointe Senior Living. Born June 19, 1926, in Rockford, the daughter of Lester and Dorothy (Knoup) Zipse. Graduated West High, Class of 1944. Married Robert D. Hayes on July 15, 1946. Formerly employed by Sunny’s Diner and Amerock Corporation. Member of St. Rita Catholic Church. Betty was a loving and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family events, reading, fishing and her pet dogs. Betty and Robert lived in Florida for six years and loved when the grandchildren came to visit. She was known for her corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. Betty was a talented card player, especially poker, and always kept the money she won. Survivors include sons, Michael (Pat) Hayes and Mark (Denise Boxleitner) Hayes; grandchildren, Christopher (Kellie) Hayes, Kelli (Brian) Veitch, and Thomas (Tia Lewis) Hayes; great-grandchildren, Paige (Garrett), Kara, Jacob and Madison; great-great-grandchildren, Hailey, Brycen, Stella and Emeri; and canine companion, Coco. Predeceased by parents; stepfather, Merrill Ahlsted; and husband.
Service at 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 15, 2020, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Private burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Monmouth. Face masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Noah’s Ark Animal Shelter or Mercy Home Hospice.
