Rockford

Betty Jane Diamond, of Rockford, IL, lovingly known to her family as “Mama Timbo,” passed away at the remarkable age of 101, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and deep devotion to family.

Born on Thursday, November 6, 1924, in Dixon, IL, during the Great Depression, the daughter of Russel and Coral (Cooper) King, Betty’s family soon moved to Rockford, where she learned early the values of hard work, perseverance, and gratitude — qualities that guided her throughout her long and meaningful life. As a young adult, Betty was an accomplished musician who played the lap steel guitar and shared her talent by entertaining soldiers during World War II, bringing joy and comfort during a difficult time in history.

Betty’s nickname, Mama Timbo, came from the lead female elephant in the movie Hatari — a name that perfectly captured her gentle strength and unforgettable presence. She was a beautiful woman with striking features and a warm, welcoming smile. For much of her adult life, Betty sold Avon cosmetics, building lasting relationships and friendships wherever she went. She also played an essential role in supporting the family service business, serving as its dedicated and dependable office manager.

She married Everett Diamond on May 16, 1949, in Rockford. A devoted mother, wife, and grandmother, Betty found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She loved cooking, taking long drives through the countryside, and enjoying Wisconsin supper clubs. She cherished all that Wisconsin had to offer — especially its lakes — and summer lakeside vacations brought her great happiness throughout her life. Betty was the loving mother of three children, Sherry, Cindy, and Dave (Karen). She was especially proud of her grandson, Rame, whom she adored and spoiled at every opportunity. She was predeceased by her parents and husband.

In 1971, Betty introduced her family to Disney World in Orlando during its opening year, boldly trading the traditional Christmas tree and presents for Mickey Mouse. That decision sparked a beloved family tradition of winter holidays in Florida that continued for the next 35 years, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Most of all, Betty was a dedicated mother, wife, and grandmother whose love shaped her family with kindness and devotion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the caregivers at Sanctuary Hospice, Help at Home, All Life Solutions, and Independence Village for their compassionate care, hard work, and dedication to our mom.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation rites accorded. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
