Barbara "Barb" Higar

April 4, 1941 — June 8, 2020

Barbara “Barb” Ann Higar, 79, of Machesney Park passed away peacefully Monday, June 8, 2020, at her home. She was born April 4, 1941, in Sterling, IL, the daughter of John and Lillian (Protheroe) Loos. She was employed by Barber-Colman for over 30 years prior to retirement. Barb was an avid sports fan. The neighbors would know that she was watching baseball or football just by the cheering (maybe some swearing) coming from the house as she rooted for her Cubs or Bears. She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren, always loved seeing dogs, and sitting on her deck watching the squirrels perform aerobics for the birdseed. She is survived by her sons, Brad (Cathy) Higar of Wausau, WI, and Keith (Nicole) Higar of Lynchburg, VA; five grandchildren, Ashley, Brandon, Sydney, Riley, and Hannah; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (Terry) Wescom of Machesney Park and Nancy (Dan) Sage of Ft. Meyers, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John; and daughter, Kim. Special thanks to all the volunteers from the American Cancer Society; the doctors, nurses, and staff at SwedishAmerican Regional Cancer Center and Heartland Hospice Care for their professionalism and dedicated care.

At Barb’s request, there will be no services or visitation because she did not want to be a bother to anyone – those who knew her best will understand and smile. Please consider memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or your local Animal Humane Society. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
