Aslaug "Aussie" Kenney

June 29, 1937 — August 17, 2019

Aslaug “Aussie” Kenney, 82, of Rockton passed away peacefully Saturday, August 17, 2019, in her home. Born June 29, 1937, in Mosterøy, Norway, daughter of Elling and Nanna (Bendiksen) Aske. Aussie grew up on her family’s farm and later traveled to the United States in 1956 at the age of 18. She began employment at Rockford Products Company as a machinist, Clinton Electronics, and lastly, as an inspector at Camcar where she later retired in 1999. After her retirement from Camcar, she enjoyed many part-time opportunities, but in recent years, her career path led her to her last (and favorite) part-time job as the “coffee lady” at the Kelley’s Market in Roscoe. Early each morning, she joyfully kept the coffee hot, the area clean, and the customers happy as she greeted them with a smile and conversation before their workday began. Aussie truly loved and enjoyed her family and friends. Many summers were spent camping at Devil’s Lake. She also enjoyed bowling with friends and co-workers. Her faith in God and her Grace Lutheran Church family remained an important part of her life. As an avid knitter, and a member of the Mary Martha Knitting Circle, she enjoyed sharing her love of knitting by providing those in need with warm scarfs and socks. She also shared her love of knitting with the children in a nearby grade school through her church’s Friday Night Fun Fest program. As her family grew in numbers, Aussie loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each shared a special place in her heart, and they loved and adored her. Her love for the game of “marbles” was shared by all. G.G., as she was lovingly referred to by her great-grandchildren, always had time for a quick—or not so quick—game of “marbles” during every visit. All of her “grands” enjoyed her competitive spirit as they grew-up learning the rules of the game and the strategy that would allow them to beat her. Her love for games also included crossword puzzles, Kindle downloads, and her weekly purchase of a lottery ticket. Aussie touched many lives. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her children, Michael (Robin) Kenney, Janet (Joe Clemons) Kenney and Keith (Karen) Kenney; grandchildren, Dustin (Melissa) Kenney, Erin (Josh) Glovinsky, Allyson Kenney, Ashley (Trent Wood) Kenney, Amanda Kenney, Abigail (Tyler Castleberry) Kenney, Nathan Ward, Michael Montoya and John (Mary) Montoya; great-grandchildren, Teagan, Easton and Cohen Kenney, Talia and Camden Glovinsky, Tori Lynn-Bea Kenney, Kayden and Carson Montoya; sister, Astrid Aske (Norway); brothers, Didrik "Dean" Aske (Rockton) and Torleiv Aske (Norway); several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents; great-grandchildren, Lily-Ann and Hayden; sister, Ellinor; and brother, Tormod.
