Arthur “Artie” James Spencer, 72, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. We had our last moments and goodbyes with our superhero Arthur "Artie" James Spencer. He lived a life as big as his stature. He was born December 13, 1951, in Rockford, IL. He married Cynthia Townsend on August 14, 1987. Member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He played football for the Rockford Rams, fought in the Toughman Contest, played summer league softball, and even wrestled a bear. He was also a power lifter who had held state records. As tough as he was, he had a soft heart and a gentle soul. Raising four boys to become strong men. A loving and devoted husband. A grandfather who loved like no other. We had the opportunity and privilege of making 40 years’ worth of memories with an incredible man. He taught all of us lessons that have left an indelible mark. He will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. Through each and every one of us, his spirit will live on. Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Cynthia; sons, Scott (Ivy) Spencer of Sparks, NV, Mark (Staci) Spencer of Hinkley, IL, Ron (Tara) Rawhoof of Greenville, SC, and Ryein (Nicolle) Rawhoof of Roscoe, IL; 11 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; siblings, Karry (Karen) Spencer and Nancy (Chico) Mandujano, both of Loves Park, IL, and Kathy (Jeff) Rowland of Rockford; brother-in-law, Todd (Lori) Townsend of Frewsburg, NY; sister-in-law, Debbie (John) Fiorenza of Rockford; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Roy and Pauline Spencer; sister, Susane Spencer-Jones; mother, Louise Fields. Special thank you to Dr. Mohammad Haider, DO, and his team at UW Health for his care.
