Anthony “Tony” P. Russell, 78, of Machesney Park, IL, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, after a short illness. Born July 1, 1946, in Walnut Ridge, AR, the son of Ray and Willene (Endsley) Russell.
Attended Harlem Schools.
He married Pamela “Pam” Stephen on August 30, 1969, in Rockford, IL.
He became a father in 1977 when their son, Rob, was born. Tony supported all of Rob’s endeavors over the years including softball, especially bowling, and was extremely proud when Rob received his college diploma. He also enjoyed attending classic car shows with his 1957 Ford Skyliner Retractable Hardtop, through which he made many long-lasting friendships. Tony and Pam, along with his uncle and aunt, Ernie and Janice Endsley, promoted an annual car show for many years to benefit Walter Lawson Children’s Home where his cousin resided. He also enjoyed fishing, bowling in many leagues with friends and with Pam. Tony worked for the Harlem School District and as a driver for local businesses prior to retirement.
Avid New York Yankee, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Cubs, and Bears fan. Survivors include
his wife, Pam; son, Rob; as well as two uncles, one aunt and many very special cousins and friends. Predeceased by his parents; mother-in-law, Rosie; and several aunts, uncles, and other family members. Special thanks to the wonderful healthcare providers in the Critical Care Unit at UW Health SwedishAmerican Hospital for their compassionate care of Tony.
Service at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL, with visitation from 1 p.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Walter Lawson Children’s Home.
