Anthony Lipovsky

December 9, 1940 — October 11, 2024

Anthony “Tony” J. Lipovsky, Jr., 83, of Machesney Park, IL, loving husband, father, grandfather, “Papa”, brother-in-law, and uncle, passed away October 11, 2024, surrounded by family.  Tony was born December 9, 1940, in Austin, MN.  He was the son of Anthony J. and Mabel Lipovsky, Sr.  He married Linda K. Winkles on January 28, 1961, in Austin, MN.  They were married for 48 years and raised three children together.  She passed away in 2009.  Tony later married Jennifer L. Nicholas in Rockford, IL, they were together for fifteen years.

He was employed by JL Clark for 44 years until his retirement.  Tony also enjoyed being employed as an EMT with Swenson Ambulance on the weekends.  He spent many days volunteering as an auxiliary police officer for the Loves Park police department.  He loved installing swimming pools on the weekends for many families.  Above all, the joy of his life was being side by side with his son, John, working on his race car.  He loved to watch him race it at the Byron Dragway strip until he became too ill to attend.  Tony was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan, watching his last game days before his death with his son, John, and grandson, Dougie.

Survivors include his wife, Jennifer Nicholas of Machesney Park; mother-in-law, Candace Nicholas, of Chicago, IL; step mother-in-law, Sandy Nicholas of Texas; son, John of Loves Park, IL; daughters, Mary (Michael) Greensides of Roscoe, IL, and Kathy Ruback of Machesney Park; stepsons, Michael (Ashley) Falbo and Daniel Falbo, both of Chicago.  He was a proud grandfather to grandchildren, Douglas (Annie) Hike, Jennifer Ruback, Austyn (Sammie) Ruback, Matthew Greensides, Lilia (Cody) Gallagher, and Michael Greensides; great-grandfather to Hunter, Harper, Haehlyn, Jaxon, Aryanna “Punky”, Silas, Olive, and Lucas; brothers-in-law, Dick (Terry), Tom (Mary), and David Winkles, Steve, John, James (Tiffany), and James (Sandra) Nicholas; sisters-in-law, Janet Tillinghast, and Kimberly (Leonard) Hodson; and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.  He enjoyed many friends especially Don Leni, Ronnie Hale, and Jerry Disch.  Tony is preceded in death by his first wife, Linda; parents, Anthony and Mabel; in-laws, Anthony and Lilian; brother, Jimmy; sisters, Marge, and Beverly; and father-in-law, George Nicholas.

Tony received wonderful care from OSF Center for Cancer Care, OSF Illinois Palliative Care and OSF Hospice.  He loved P.A. Wendy.  The family would like to thank them for their compassion towards Tony.

Graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Harlem Cemetery, Loves Park, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park.
