Alvin Ray Metcalf, 78, of Machesney Park passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in his home, surrounded by his family. Born February 4, 1938, in Bono, AR., the son of Martin A. and Marie E. (Scott) Metcalf. He moved to Rockford where he married the love of his life, Joyce M. Wallin on October 17, 1958, in Rockford. To this union, they were blessed with four children. Employed by Colonial Bakery for 30 years and owned Metcalf’s Auburn Tap for 8 years. Alvin was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He was a talented singer, who according to his granddaughter, Tawnee, sounded like Alan Jackson. He loved gardening and carpentry. Alvin loved German shepherds and is survived by his loyal companion, Jake. He was a lifelong family man who prized his love ones above all else. He leaves behind a legacy of children and grandchildren who will carry his teaching and wisdoms on through the generations. Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce; daughter, Joyce L. (Wayne) Metcalf; sons, David and James Metcalf; son-in-law, Dan Manring; grandchildren, Linsey Blitch, Tawnee Calhoun and Connor Manring; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by daughter, Mary Manring; brother, Elvis Bowen; and sisters, Nellie Songer, Pearl Fisher and Merle Reece.

Services were private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., Loves Park.
