Albert Edwin George “Ted” Tinsley
Albert Edwin George “Ted” Tinsley, 85, passed away peacefully in Rockford, Illinois, on June 11, 2023, at home surrounded by loved ones.
He was born in 1937 in Coventry, England, to George and Amy (Jackson) Tinsley. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jean and Margaret. He married Muriel Lucy Congrave (deceased) in 1961 at St. Bartholomew Church in Binley, Coventry.
Ted is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his sister, Anne; his beloved four children, Julie (Gary) Woodcock, Cheryl (Richard) Potter, Edwin (Shelly) Tinsley, and Carl “Tony” (Kirsty) Tinsley; and two stepchildren, Juliet (Carey) Deadman and Valerie (Jay) Soetermans. He was a cherished granddad to 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who called him GGD.
A talented design engineer, he loved his job and worked at several companies before moving to Rockford in 1977 to work for Ingersoll Machine Tools.
He married the love of his life, Carol Brandt, on December 23, 1989, at The Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton, Illinois.
Before moving to the United States, Ted loved banger racing with his team, Purple Gang Bang, and working on his car in preparation for weekend races. He also loved fishing and competed in tournaments throughout England and Ireland.
Ted started playing golf when he moved to the U.S. He spent time on the course until he could no longer play but continued to enjoy the game on TV.
A devoted man of faith, he was an active member of Calvary Memorial Church, where he led the men’s ministry and served on the praise team for many years. After retiring, he became a church elder and served as chairman of the board for several years.
Service at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Calvary Memorial Church, 2715 North Alpine Road, Rockford, with visitation from 3 p.m. to service time. Cremation rites accorded. Flowers may be sent to the church. Arrangements by Delehanty Funeral Home, 401 River Lane, Loves Park, IL.
