Alan Wetzel

Alan George Wetzel, 73, of Machesney Park passed away Sunday, April 10, 2022.  Born April 3, 1949, in Hackensack, NJ, the son of George A. and Gertrude R. (Dilba) Wetzel.  Graduated from Cresskill High School in N.J., and Carthage College in Kenosha, WI.  Attended Suomi Jr. College in the U.P.  Married Barbara J. Conklin on May 25, 1985, in Loves Park.  Employed by the Rockford School District, retiring in 2005.  Member of Grace Lutheran Church.  Former member of Kiwanis Club.  Avid reader of the Wall Street Journal.  Alan loved trips to the ocean, his Alaskan Malamute’s, and word search puzzles.  Survivors include his wife, Barb of Machesney Park; brother, Robert (Nancy) Wetzel of Emerald Isle, N.C.; brother-in-law, Mike (Mary) Conklin of Machesney Park; sisters-in-law, Patricia Haines of Midlothian, VA, and Sally Conklin of Loves Park; several nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by parents; and fur-children, Anna, Brandy, Sassy, and Emma.

Memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Grace Lutheran Church or Illinois Alaskan Malamute Rescue Association.
