Adona M. Hudson, 91, of Rockford died Saturday, October 22, 2016, in her home. She was born in Caledonia, Minnesota, the daughter of Nicholas and Martha (Palen) Schmitz. Adona moved to Rockford the day after graduating from high school. She worked in a variety of jobs, lived for an adventurous few months in Denver around the end of World War II, then settled back in Rockford. Her most memorable job was her many years at City National Bank. She married Robert Hudson on April 26, 1952. In the early 1970s, the family created and ran Buffalo Lake Campgrounds in Montello, Wisconsin. They returned to Rockford in 1976. She volunteered at St. Anne Nursing Home for some 28 years. Adona always kept close ties with her Minnesota family. Survivors include her daughter, Amanda; son, Paul (Jodine), all of Rockford; and beloved grandson, Andrew of Moor Park, California. Predeceased by her infant daughter, Mary Martha; her parents; husband, Robert in 1999; and brother, Dale Schmitz. Special thanks to OSF Hospice and particularly to her wonderful caregiver, Jentiale.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday, October 28, in Holy Family Catholic Church, 4401 Highcrest Road, Rockford. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 27, in Delehanty Funeral Home, Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with Rosary recited at 6:45 p.m. Visitation also from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday in the church.
